Who We Are

Meals On Wheels is a volunteer-based nonprofit agency. We are totally supported by donations from individuals, churches and businesses.

Volunteers Needed

Volunteering brings great personal satisfaction to many people. You can be that person who makes a. difference. If you would like to help, call (864) 487-2730.

Cherokee County Meals On Wheels has been delivering meals to homebound and elderly county residents since 1984. Meals On Wheels is a community sponsored service for people who live alone and have trouble preparing their own hot  meals. A delicious and nutritious hot noon meal is delivered to the homebound Monday through Friday. Meals are planned by professional cooks and delivered by dedicated volunteers.

It takes more than 150 volunteers each week to make sure all our recipients get their meals.

We have lots of opportunities to volunteer, such as:

Route Drivers

Volunteer drivers spend one lunch hour a week delivering meals to those unable to leave their homes. It's not just the delivery of a hot, nutritious meal that is important. Volunteer drivers check on each individual's well-being and share a friendly word with each of our recipients. Each town route takes an hour. Some country routes take a little longer.

Substitute Drivers

Sometimes several regular drivers find their business or activities prevent them from taking their regular route. Substitute drivers agree to be "on call" for the route in need.

Packing the meals requires approximately two hours per week. Hours are 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. They pack the hot meals for the drivers to pick up and distribute.

Lunch Servers

Requires about two hours a week to help fill lunch containers for each recipient.

Office Volunteers

Volunteers to assist with mailings, newsletters, birthday cards, data management and entry. Volunteers to help answer the phones.
